The Seven Principles of Kwanzaa - Chriscinthia Blount

Umoja (Oneness)
Oneness
yields the strength
to overcome all obstacles.

Kujichagulia (Self Determination)
If we allow ourselves
to be defined,
and therefore created,
we become dolls on strings
being pulled in every direction
but our own.

Ujima (Collective Work & Responsibility)
Individuals
can build
but only families
maintain.

Ujamma (Cooperative Economics)
If we put only half
of our time, money, and energy
toward creating
our own wealth,
we could have built
a nation by now.

Nia (Purpose)
The purpose
of every human life
is to teach,
through one’s own method,
the power of love.

Kuumba (Creativity)
Give birth
to things beautiful
and beneficial
for only they
are everlasting
treasures.

Imani (Faith)
Only in the hearts
of believers
do miracles
manifest.
