1,000 Voices for Promise Neighborhoods

A Call to Action from PolicyLink.Org
Since we asked for your help yesterday, the outpouring of support for Promise Neighborhoods has been extraordinary. Senate leaders have now heard from nearly 1,000 advocates and activists representing 49 of the 50 states (we need you, Alaska!).
The Promise Neighborhoods chorus is rising, but it needs more voices. With a major Senate vote looming as soon as this Tuesday, there is no time to waste.

As Angela Glover Blackwell wrote today on the Huffington Post, "We must invest what’s needed in order for this program to truly thrive – and for potentially millions of children to benefit from the lessons of the Harlem Children’s Zone."

We must act now to ensure one of the most promising anti-poverty programs in generations gets the funding it needs.

A letter sent to the Senate yesterday by one of the coordinators of a Promise Neighborhoods application in Binghamton, NY, said it well. David Sloan Wilson wrote, "I know how much interest and energy was aroused, how much good will take place if we receive a PN grant…The amount of money earmarked for this program is a pittance compared to the good that it will do."

To ensure the Senate hears our voices, we will be hand-delivering David’s letter and every response we receive.

Together, we can expand the horizons of millions of children.

Thank you,
